Midland College is pleased to announce Shelly Haney as the new Executive Director
- Recruitment, Retention, and Transfer in the Education Department. In this newly
established role focused on building the pipeline to teacher certification, Haney
will lead the team responsible for developing a student and community-focused pathway,
taking students from dual credit to teacher certification and into teaching positions
with Midland Independent School District.
Shelly, who has been a math teacher, coach, and administrator for MISD for over 20
years and most recently served as Chief of Schools for a local charter school network,
said, "I am so excited to join the MC team! I look forward to working with local high
school and college students as they prepare to achieve their dreams of developing
the minds of tomorrow’s leaders.” Shelly is excited to partner with these future teachers
as they start, strive, and succeed at MC and beyond.
Student Success is the second pillar of MC’s strategic framework. Shelly’s role and
the experience she brings support MC's focus not only on students' success but also
on strengthening partnerships with school districts and higher education institutions
to grow students' awareness of opportunities in teaching. In addition to taking advantage
of MC’s highly qualified faculty and a new cutting-edge pre-k academy and training
site, these students will have early and continuous advising, access to scholarships,
a robust, focused learning community, and a clear academic plan from day one through
to teaching certification.
"We are committed to guiding these students every step of the way, regardless of where
they begin their journey," stated MC President Dr. Damon Kennedy. "We are fortunate
to have a robust partnership with MISD and the University of Texas Permian Basin,
and together, we are working diligently to ensure a seamless transition from high
school to Midland College and on to UTPB's Texas Education Agency's approved Teacher
Education Preparation Program."
Shelly received a Bachelor of Science degree in Multidisciplinary Studies with a minor
in Mathematics from Texas Tech University and a Master of Education in School Leadership
and Principal certification from the University of Texas Permian Basin. She has completed
the Region 18 Superintendent Certification program, Rice University Jones Graduate
School of Business Executive Education Academy, Leadership Midland, and the Nonprofit
Executive Leadership Academy.
When Shelly isn't working, she enjoys watching Texas Tech sports, spoiling her niece,
Katelyn, cooking, being a dog mom, traveling, and spending time with her friends and
family.
MC is beyond excited with Shelly’s addition to the team and what this means for our
students and community.
