Sigma Kappa Delta

Sigma Kappa Delta is the English Honor Society for Two-Year Colleges.

It was founded in 1996 at Cottey College. Sigma Kappa Delta headquarters is currently located at Calhoun Community College. With over 150 active chapters located in the United States, approximately 2500 members are inducted annually. Sigma Kappa Delta's central purpose is to confer distinction upon students of the English language and literature in undergraduate studies.

Midland College is home to the Zeta Epsilon chapter of Sigma Kappa Delta and has approximately 50 members. Advised by Stacy and Brendan Egan, SKD meets once a month and schedules social events and service projects related to forwarding reading, writing, and literature in our community. Examples of recent projects include: Black History Month film screening of Hidden Figures, Open Mic Night for MC Community, and helping out on campus by reading at the pre-k and tutoring in the Writing Center. Recent social events include movie night on campus, bowling, painting at the pottery, cookouts in the park, and coffee hours.

Members are honored annually at the spring formal induction ceremony and have the opportunity to participate in the organization at both the local and national level. Our members have been invited to present at national conventions in St. Louis, Las Vegas, Atlanta, and Denver and have won both scholarships and national creative writing awards through SKD in poetry, creative nonfiction, and fiction writing. Members are also acknowledged in the Midland College graduation program.
