Sophomore Scholarships
- Awards up to $2,500/semester for eight semesters within 5 years
- No Summer or Winter terms
- Payment will be made directly to the transfer institution
- Must be a US Citizen
- Be unmarried for the length of the scholarship (scholarship will be forfeited if you get married)

Eligibility Requirements
Students who graduate from Midland College and plan to pursue a bachelor's degree at a four-year Texas public university may be eligible for one of the Graduating Sophomore Scholarships. Students must:
- Receive an Associate Degree by July 31 of the current academic year
- Cross the stage at the December or May graduation with an associate degree
- Cumulative 2.0 or higher GPA (some transfer scholarships have a 3.0 minimum requirement)
- Attend a PUBLIC Texas university as a full-time student
- Complete the online application which is open from January 1 - March 1 each year
Submission Deadline March 1 at 5 PM each year
Required Documentation
All required documents must be submitted together between January 1 and March 1. Some items may take several weeks to receive, so prepare early.
- Cover Letter to include: a professional picture of yourself, first and last name, permanent mailing address, cell phone, personal email address (not MC email), indicate if you are a first generation college student, involvement/activities while attending MC, university you were accepted to, and any known scholarships from the institution.
- Copy of Student Aid Index (SAI)
Complete the 2025-2026 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to get the SAI (this can be a timely process; start early) OR a memo with Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) eligibility. - At least two letters of recommendation from Midland College faculty or staff.
- Official Midland College transcript (you can open and upload).
- Letter of acceptance from a Texas PUBLIC institution.
- Essay. The essay must be the applicant’s own work and be no more than 750 words. The
following information must be included in the essay:
-Financial need for the scholarship
-Other types of financial assistance that you are receiving
-The major being pursued
-Plans to use that major after graduating - An interview may be required of selected candidates. If selected as a recipient, community service may be required. The funding organizations make ALL scholarship selection decisions.
Due Date
March 1 each academic year
Failure to truthfully and accurately complete the Graduating Sophomore Scholarship application and submit all required documentation by March 1 will result in disqualification for scholarship consideration.
