Registered NurseAssociate Degree Nursing (ADN)
Nursing is as much a calling as it is a career path. Many people become interested in the profession because they feel a need to help people. As Val Saintsbury once said, “Nurses dispense comfort, compassion and caring without even a prescription.” Nurses do more than giving medicine and treat wounds. They care about their patients and help improve their lives and disease outcomes.
At Midland College (MC), the associate degree Nursing (A.D.N.) program is fully accredited with the Texas Board of Nursing. The A.D.N. program is an intense, high-quality program that prepares the graduate for an entry-level nursing position. The Associate Degree Nursing program offers two options. Option One (1): the traditional program track is full-time, 4-semesters. Option Two (2): LVN to ADN transition track is a full-time, 3-semester program for those individuals who already possess an LVN license in the state of Texas. Both programs will prepare nursing students to apply to the Texas Board of Nursing for participation in the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN).
If you like science or are intrigued by the human body, want a rewarding career in a time-honored profession, nursing is the choice for you. Nursing provides diverse career paths with excellent pay and flexible hours in multiple employment locations allowing autonomy and adventure. Nursing is a rewarding career that provides the opportunity to change the lives of both nurses and patients.
Midland College's ADN program is an affordable, high quality nursing education at a low-cost. Midland College faculty are committed to helping students achieve educational goals. The bonus of Midland College is that credits transfer to 4-year institutions assisting the achievement of educational career goals. Midland College is currently in the candidacy process with the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). ACEN accreditation evaluates the quality of the nursing program and it is a voluntary process. According to ACEN "ACEN accreditation indicates to the general public and to the educational community that a nursing program has clear and appropriate educational objectives and is working to achieve these objectives."

Students can expect a very busy schedule in both the classroom and in various clinical sites with potentially long hours. Devoting time to study is a must to be able to succeed. Students are encouraged not to work during this educational time so that all of the student’s attention can focus on being successful.
The Student Nurse Association on campus meets for fellowship and activities with nursing students discussing nursing and learning opportunities in the community. All semesters of nursing students are encouraged to join. The Student Nurse Association is a great way to make friends and become part of college life.
For advisement concerning program requirements, start by seeing an assigned pathway advisor in the Student Services Center. Pathway advisors help students connect with career choices giving guidance concerning required prerequisite courses to complete prior to the application process. After successful completion of the ADN program, the graduate nurse is eligible as a candidate to take the Registered Nurse licensure exam for the state of Texas.

Student Success
Jacob WallaceThis past fall when Midland College (MC) nursing student Jacob Wallace was in the midst of a clinical rotation in the Oncology Department at Midland Memorial Hospital (MMH), he began performing the routine head-to-toe assessment on a female patient; however, that assessment soon turned into a moment that Wallace termed “serendipitous.” “I could tell that she wanted to talk to someone,” Wallace recalled. “So, instead of continuing with the assessment, I just sat down and visited with her. I truly believe that God put me in that moment for a reason. That evening, she passed away. It is humbling to think that I was one of the last people to talk to her. I’m glad that I took the time to get to know her a little better.” Read the rest of Wallace's story
