Nurse Aide
Nurse Aides are important! Working as a nurse aide is a rewarding career and can be a stepping stone to future nursing career pathways.
This program prepares students for entry level nursing assistants and achieves a level of knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to provide basic care to residents. High school diploma and GED are NOT required.
Content includes residents’ rights, communication, safety, observation, reporting and assisting residents in maintaining basic comfort and safety. Clinical is practical instruction with close and/or direct supervision provided by the clinical professional (faculty or preceptor), generally in a clinical setting. Clinical education is an unpaid learning experience. This is a direct patient contact course.
Upon successful completion of the program the student is eligible to take the Texas Nurse Aide Certification Exam (CNA).

Courses Offered
Monday - Thursday, 8:30 am - 3 pm
Nurse Aide Classroom
This nurse aide classroom course will provide the student with knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to provide basic care to residents of long-term care facilities. Topics include resident's rights, communication, safety, observation, reporting and assisting residents in maintaining basic comfort and safety. Emphasis on effective interaction with members of the healthcare team, restorative services, mental health, and social services needs. No high school diploma or GED required.
Nurse Aide Clinical
The Nurse Aide clinical course is practical instruction with close and/or direct supervision provided by the clinical professional (faculty or preceptor), generally in a clinical setting. Clinical education is an unpaid learning experience. This is a direct patient contact course.

How To Get Started: In-person Program Registration

- Submit your Viewpoint Screening applications. Instructions on how to do so can be found under the "Application Steps" tab below.
- Once the Viewpoint application is complete and approved, contact Ivy Villa to schedule a registration appointment.
The Computer-Based Hybrid Training option combines online coursework with required in-person skills and clinical training through Midland College.
Three Required Program Components:

How to Get Started: Hybrid Classroom Modules
- Complete the online training modules through Texas Health & Human Services:
Texas Health and Human Services Registration - After completing the online modules, submit your Viewpoint Screening application.

- Once both steps are complete, contact Ivy Villa to schedule a registration appointment.
Program Requirements

- 18 years or older
- Copy of Photo ID or Driver’s License
- Copy of Social Security Card
- BLS CPR Certified
Provide a copy of current BLS CPR Certification.
Must be American Heart Association, BLS, within past 2 years.

Risk Management Training Course Offerings - Pass Criminal Background Check (processed by Viewpoint Screening)
- Proof of Current Immunizations
- Flu (October - March)
- Tetanus (Td or Tdap) - 1 shot within last 10 years
- MMR - 2 shots if born after 1957
- Hepatitis B series - all 3 shots or 2 dose Heplisav series
- Tuberculosis (TB) test (negative result) - within last 12 months
- Varicella (chicken pox) - 2 shots

As an in-person Nurse Aide student, expect

- 72 hours of classroom instruction
- 48 hours of hands-on clinical instruction
As a hybrid Nurse Aide student, expect

Upon Successful Completion of the Program
Eligible to take the Texas Nurse Aide certification exam
Nurse Aide Opportunities
Nurse Aides can make up to $38,200 in the state of Texas. The most common areas of work for a CNA are long-term care facilities, hospitals, physician offices, health departments, and home health care agencies.
