Counseling and mental health services are available to eligible, enrolled Midland College students. Our counseling department is here to support you through various means of communication, including in-person meetings, phone calls, and email. We strive to create a safe and confidential environment where you can discuss your concerns and work towards personal growth. We are committed to your well-being and academic success, providing guidance and support tailored to your individual needs. If specialized care is required, we can assist you in finding appropriate resources and making referrals to ensure you receive the best possible support.

The Statewide Behavioral Health Coordinating Council (SBHCC) through the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is a resource to help people locate mental health and substance use disorder services, get information about common mental health conditions and social services, and find crisis hotline services. The website also includes mental health resources related to COVID-19.
MINDapps is a free resource designed to help individuals discover mental health and wellness applications. It is a collaboration between the American Psychiatric Association, and the Division of Digital Psychiatry at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (affiliated with Harvard Medical School), providing a variety of digital health tools.
For those experiencing emotional distress due to natural or human-made disasters, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Disaster Distress Helpline provides crisis counseling (24 hours a day, 365 days a year). This service is provided in more than 100 languages and is confidential. To contact the helpline:

Jon Kabat-Zinn in his 1994 book “Wherever You Go, There You Are” says that mindfulness is paying attention in the present moment, on purpose, non-judgmentally.
Mindfulness meditation has been shown to reduce the effects of pain, anxiety, depression, insomnia and improve blood pressure. It has also been shown to increase gray matter in the brain and enable people to handle the life stressors better. The basic idea of mindfulness meditation is to focus on the immediate moment by concentrating on something happening in the here and now like breathing.
The UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center has a number of free mindfulness meditations on different subjects like helping with sleep, dealing with difficulties and kindness.
