 Midland College President, Dr. Damon Kennedy has received the Paragon Award for New
                                    Presidents presented by the international honor society Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the
                                    International Honor Society for Community College students.  
                                 
                                 The award recognizes new college presidents for their outstanding support of student
                                    success and for providing high-quality learning environments inside and outside the
                                    classroom. Awardees are recognized for their active and direct interest in the leadership
                                    development of Phi Theta Kappa students, including providing them with more opportunities
                                    and vital pathways to degree completion and employment. 
                                 
                                 “These college presidents have students-first leadership styles and made it a priority
                                    to support student success both inside and outside the classroom,” said Phi Theta
                                    Kappa President and CEO Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner. “This award is special because it
                                    comes directly from the students, and it is evidence of the gratitude they feel for
                                    the support for them and students like them.” 
                                 
                                 “Our chapter is very thankful for all of the support that Dr. Kennedy provides for
                                    our chapter.” states Terry L. Gilmour, Ph.D., Advisor & District 1 Coordinator of
                                    Phi Theta Kappa. “Even before he was selected as President of Midland College, he
                                    has always been an advocate for academic excellence and appreciates and recognizes
                                    the contributions to the Midland College community by students who are members of
                                    our Phi Theta Kappa chapter.  We are thrilled that he is receiving this very prestigious
                                    award!” 
                                 
                                 Dr. Kennedy will be one of 24 college presidents to receive the award during the PKT
                                    Catalyst 2024, the Society’s annual convention in Orlando, Florida in April.
