Midland College welcomes Kristina Gafford as new head volleyball coachJuly 16, 2024
Midland College is proud to announce the appointment of Kristina Gafford as the new
head coach of the Midland College Volleyball team.
Gafford, former Midland College standout and assistant coach since 2018, steps into
this role with enthusiasm and a deep commitment to the program's success.
Gafford, a native of Wolfforth, Texas, and alumni of Frenship High School joined the
Midland College Lady Chap Volleyball team where she played two years for former head
Coach of 18 years, Tammie Jimenez. She has served as the Midland College assistant
volleyball coach since 2018.
"I am honored and excited to lead the Midland College volleyball program," said Kristina
Gafford. "I have had the privilege of learning from Coach Jimenez, and I am eager
to build on the strong foundation she has established. Our goal remains to cultivate
not only skilled athletes but also resilient individuals prepared for success both
on and off the court. I am ready to lead this new era of Midland College Volleyball
and see where our successes take us."
Gafford was a record breaking setter and a two-year starter for the Lady Chaps, earning
All-WJCAC recognition in her first year with the Lady Chaps.
As a sophomore Gafford set a school record for assists, led the Lady Chaps to two
NJCAA Region V West Tournaments, and was once again named to the All-WJCAC team.
Gafford earned an Associate of Arts in General Studies from Midland College in 2014.
She transferred to Texas Wesleyan University (NAIA) to continue her academic and athletic
pursuits. Gafford earned her way onto several prestigious lists during her two seasons
in Fort Worth including: the NAIA All-Region team, SAC Setter of the Year, First Team
All-SAC, Texas Wesleyan Coach’s Award, and was selected three times as the SAC Setter
of the Week.
As the new head coach, Gafford aims to continue Midland College's tradition of athletic
achievement and academic excellence. Her vision for the program includes fostering
a culture of teamwork, discipline, and continuous improvement among student-athletes.
"We are confident that Kristina Gafford is the right leader to build upon our volleyball
program's success," said Midland College Athletic Director Forrest Allen. "Her experience,
dedication, and vision for the future of our student-athletes align perfectly with
Midland College's mission."
Midland College looks forward to a bright future under Coach Gafford's leadership
and invites the community to join in welcoming her to this new role.
