CTE Programs with Additional Admission Criteria
The Midland College Emergency Medical Services program has a limited enrollment based on the following specific admission criteria:
- Complete the online Health Sciences and Allied Health General Application for admission.
- Paramedic Certificate program requires Texas Success Initiative (TSI) completion.
- Applicants must be currently certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
- Completion of prerequisite courses: BIOL 2404 Human Anatomy and Physiology and HPRS 1106 Essentials of Medical Terminology.
- Immunizations including three doses of the hepatitis B vaccine, two doses of mumps- measles- rubella (MMR) vaccine, current tetanus- diphtheria- pertussis (Tdap) vaccine, and varicella (chicken pox) disease verification or vaccine, and COVID-19 vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption. Clinical agencies require screening for tuberculosis and the current influenza vaccine each year. All immunizations must be complete prior to the first day of class.
- Criminal background check.
- Urine drug screen.
- Interview with and enrollment permission from Department Chair
The Midland College Fire Academy program has a limited enrollment based on the following specific admission criteria:
- Complete the online Health Sciences and Allied Health General Application for Admission.
- Interview with and permission to enroll from Department Chair.
The Midland College Health Information Management AAS program has a limited enrollment based on the following specific admission criteria:
- Complete the online Health Sciences and Allied Health General Application for Admission.
- Submit a Health Information Management application packet.
- Official transcripts must be sent to Midland College Registrar's office.
- Complete TSI requirements.
- Foreign students must comply with additional requirements set by the college.
- Complete the following prerequisite courses with a “C” or better AND current with
five (5) years of program admission:
- HITT 1205 Medical Terminology I
- BCIS 1305 Business Computer Applications
- BIOL 2401 Anatomy and Physiology I
- BIOL 2402 Anatomy and Physiology II or BIOL 2404 Human Anatomy and Physiology
The Midland College Health Services Management BAS program has a limited enrollment based on the following specific admission criteria:
- Complete the online Health Sciences and Allied Health General Application.
- Complete the HSM Information Packet.
- Submit a completed HSM Information Packet and send unofficial college transcripts to HSM at himhsm@midland.edu
- Official transcripts must be sent to the Midland College Registrar's office at records@midland.edu
- Admittance into the program requires an Associate of Applied Science (or equivalent degree) and 33 hours of technical courses.
- Foreign students must comply with additional requirements set by the college. For these requirements visit: www.midland.edu/international. Since the program is completely online, foreign students do not qualify for student visa status, however, students can complete the program while living at home or in a different country.
The Midland College Associate Degree Nursing program, traditional and transition options, has a limited enrollment based on the following specific admission criteria:
- Complete the online Health Sciences and Allied Health General Application for Admission.
- Applicants must provide transcripts of all college work to the nursing department and to the Midland College Registrar's office.
- Obtain a minimum score of 79 on the TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language).
This requirement is for students born and educated through high school outside the
United States. The TOEFL score is valid for two (2) years.
Complete requirements for the college’s Texas Success Initiative (TSI) unless an exemption has been granted. - Obtain a satisfactory score on the nursing entrance examination, Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), most current version. The minimum acceptable score is in the academic preparedness category of "Proficient." There must be six (6) weeks between retakes , and only three (3) retakes per admission cycle. The TEAS score is valid for two (2) years.
- Prerequisite courses must be completed according to the degree plan.
- BIOL 2401 Anatomy and Physiology I and BIOL 2402 Anatomy and Physiology II must be passed with a "B" or better. All other course grades for the degree must be passed with a grade of “C” or better. BIOL 2401 Anatomy and Physiology I and BIOL 2402 Anatomy and Physiology II must be current within five (5) years of program admission.
- Show evidence of a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on all college coursework.
- A criminal background check will be conducted and students are required to pay the fees associated with fingerprint analysis and the criminal background check through the Texas BON. A person who has been convicted of or received deferred adjudication for anything other than a minor traffic violation, has been diagnosed with mental illness, or has a history of substance abuse should contact the Texas Board of Nursing prior to seeking program admission. Clearance on the criminal background check must be obtained in order to be admitted to the nursing program. Eligibility questions can be discussed with the nursing program chair.
- Transition option applicants must hold a current unencumbered license to practice nursing as an L.V.N. in the State of Texas.
- Provide a record of required immunizations. Immunizations include three doses of the hepatitis B vaccine or titer, two doses of measles-mumps-rubella vaccine or titer, a current tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap) vaccine, varicella vaccine or titer, and COVID-19 vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption. Clinical agencies require students to have the current influenza vaccine and tuberculosis screening each year.
- CPR training as a Professional Rescuer must be current at the time of the application deadline and maintained throughout the nursing program. Online training is not accepted.
Students must comply with all school and nursing program policies. Urine drug screening is conducted throughout the program at the student’s expense. The results must be negative to continue in the program. Professional liability insurance is required and is paid for as part of college fees. Health and accident insurance is required throughout the program.
The Midland College Vocational Nursing program has a limited enrollment based on the following specific admission criteria:
- Complete the online Health Sciences and Allied Health General Application for Admission.
- Provide official transcripts of all college work to the LVN program clerk and the Midland College Registrar's office.
- The applicant must complete the background check process with the Texas Board of Nursing before being accepted into the vocational nursing program.
- The applicant must obtain a satisfactory score on the nursing entrance exam, Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), most current version. The minimum acceptable score is in the academic preparedness category of "Basic." Applicants must wait 6-weeks between retakes. The TEAS score is valid for 2 years.
- Hold a current Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) license.
- Applicants who were born and educated through high school outside the United States must obtain a minimum score of 79 on the TOEFL iBt (Test of English as a Foreign Language). The TOEFL score is valid for 2 years.
- Training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) must be completed prior to the start of classes for students accepted into the program. Healthcare Provider Basic Certification must be obtained from the American Heart Association. Online CPR training is not acceptable.
- The applicant must provide a record of required immunizations. Immunizations including three doses of the hepatitis B vaccine, two doses of mumps-measles-rubella (MMR) or titer, current tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap), varicella (chicken pox) vaccine or titer, and COVID-19 vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption. All immunizations must be complete in order for the application to be considered for admission. Clinical agencies require students to have the current influenza vaccine and tuberculosis screening each year. These requirements are seasonal and can be met after being accepted into the program.
- Admission points will be awarded if the applicant has completed the following courses
with a grade of “C” or above:
- VNSG 1320 Anatomy and Physiology for Allied Health - this course must have been completed within the last five (5) years. The program chair can approve course substitutions for this course. The course substitutions are BIOL 2401 Anatomy and Physiology I and BIOL 2402 Anatomy and Physiology II, or BIOL 2404 Human Anatomy and Physiology. The grades for both courses are averaged to determine the number of admission points.
- HPRS 1106 Essentials of Medical Terminology - this course must have been completed within the last two (2) years.
- Additional admission points will be awarded for the following:
- EDUC 1100 Effective Learning
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Institutional Award.
- Certificate awarded by an accredited college.
- Degree awarded by an accredited college.
Admission Requirements
- Submit application for admission into the Bachelor of Applied Science/Organizational Management program
- An approved (AAS) degree from a Texas college or equivalent
- GPA of 2.5 or better
Students who have been admitted to the program and are within 15 credit hours of completing their AAS degree may, with the approval of the Dean of Department Chair, enroll in no more than two (2) upper-division courses ONLY upon successfully completing the following enrollment requirements:
- ENGL 1301 and ENGL 2311 or ENGL 1302;
- Speech course selected from the Core Curriculum Course List (SPCH 1315 or SPCH 1321 recommended); and
- MATH 1324 or MATH 1325
Students who have completed an AA or AS degree may seek entrance into the BAT/OM program after having successfully completed no less than 30 hours of an approved AAS degree’s technical courses AND after having received their AAS in the field covered by those technical courses. Students may not enroll in more than six (6) credit hours of upper-division courses before completing an AAS degree or equivalent. Once admitted into the program, successful completion of upper-division courses requires a grade of “C” or better.
The Midland College Respiratory Care program has a limited enrollment based on the following specific admission criteria:
- Complete a Health Sciences Division Application for Admission.
- Schedule and complete an advising session with the Program Chair.
- Submit two official transcripts showing high school graduation (or proof of GED) and two official college transcripts. One copy should be delivered to the Midland College Respiratory Care program (in Aaron Medical Science Building), and one to the Midland College Records Office (in Scharbauer Student Center).
- Provide evidence of a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.
- Complete BIOL 2401, Anatomy and Physiology I, and BIOL 2402, Anatomy and Physiology II, with a grade of “B” or better in each course.
- Provide a criminal background check. Program personnel will conduct a background check on all applicants.
- Obtain clearance on a urine drug screen scheduled by the department.
The Midland College Sonography program has a limited enrollment based on the following specific admission criteria:
- Complete the online Health Sciences and Allied Health General Application for Admission.
- Take the Test of Essential Academic Skills for Nursing Exam (TEAS) and score at a minimum preparedness level of Proficient.
- Complete the following courses with a minimum grade of “C” or above:
- PHYS 1415, Physical Science I, or PHYS 1401, College Physics I
- BIOL 2401, Anatomy and Physiology I
- MATH 1314, College Algebra
- HPRS 1106, Essentials of Medical Terminology
- ENGL 1301 , Composition I
- Complete immunizations including three doses of hepatitis B, two doses of mumps-measles-rubella (MMR), current tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap), and varicella (chicken pox) titer or vaccine must be complete in order for the application to be considered for admission. Clinical agencies require students to have the current influenza vaccine each year, as well as 2 doses of the COVID-19 vaccination or an approved medical/religious exemption.
- Earn additional admission points by completing the following courses with a grade
of “C” or above:
- BIOL 2402, Anatomy and Physiology II
- PSYC 2301, Introduction to Psychology
- Humanities/Fine Arts Elective
- PREP 0370, Basic College Study Skills or EDUC 1100, Effective Learning
